Charity fundraising

Every year or so, the clarity team chooses a charity partner to support - and our charity committee plans a wide range of fundraising activities and events. Themed bake offs, marathons, 26 mile Treks, midnight walks, art competitions - even cycling from London to Paris - the clarity team loves a challenge!

Our charity partner for 2023 is Young Lives vs Cancer who support children and young people under the age of 25 with cancer, and their families, helping them find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them. They ensure young people and families are equipped to face cancer by offering financial support such as travel, hardship and bereavement grants, someone to talk to when times are tough and free accommodation in their 11 Homes from Home near principal treatment centres, reducing exhausting and expensive travel.

They have a wonderful team of social workers based at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, working alongside NHS staff, on hand to support local young cancer patients and their families with whatever they need.

On average when a young person has cancer, families spend an additional £730 a month on costs such as petrol to and from hospital, parking, food on to go etc. Last year, Young Lives vs Cancer supported 111 families from Surrey and gave out 79 grants worth £13,750 to help local families alleviate some of these costs.

With the current cost of living crisis sweeping the UK, the families Young Lives vs Cancer support are having to deal with the high costs of cancer alongside the steep rise in general living costs. They are witnessing parents having to make impossible choices, such as buy a coat to keep their sick child warm or pay for petrol to get them to hospital for treatment. And they have had instances of young people not attending their chemotherapy treatment as they simply can't afford the travel costs into London.

We've set ourselves a big target of £10,000 to help Young Lives vs Cancer provide these vital grants and support. This year we plan on going big with our challenges, so to keep up to date check in with our social media pages on LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram where you'll find out what we've been up to.
